Maya work chairs and tables

 The home work was to follow a tutorial on how to make chairs and tables. The first part was to make them then to apply a texture to all of them, this is the stage I have to so far.
I produced the square chair along with the long table. I encountered problems with the round chair and will go back to try and solve them. I think that what the problem I have could be based on the size I was working on.
I also produced the round chair, this was more difficult as the video that we were given skipped certain parts. in the end the final outcome has a dent in the bend of the chair when smoothed out. I cant really find a solution to the problem.

Overall I found that this task for the amount of time that I have used Maya was difficult and certain areas are difficult.

The Gun Project

This project consists of drawing a gun with a futuristic style, I stared off by creating a mood board that consisted of futuristic guns, from games and real guns.
I wanted to focus on a revolver/ pistol. I wanted to use the barrel of the revolver to be a key part as this would store the bullets.

I started off by drawing different types of guns mainly pistols as they are my focus. The smooth aspect of the futuristic guns is something i want to bring in also. the style i wish to go for is old mixed with new this could be seen with the fun used in firefly (the TV series).

The gun designs that i have produced look more at the old style that is needed for the design.
 i wanted the gun to have a more of a design in the handle to start off with.

the sleek part of the gun i want to be part of the barrel. i think that this would be a large part of the design. this would be the futuristic style part of the design.

Thought Process and sketches;

This is my final design sketch.
the style is mixed with old function of the revolver pistol and the smooth aspect creates the sense of the future. A balanced concept of old and new.

Hammer and Crowbar

For the 3D modeling this week we had to make a sledgehammer and a crowbar;

These are what i was able to produce, I haven't quite grasped how to texture these. They were made in Maya and problems did tend to occur, such as an edge floating in my world and effecting a large amount of my work. This caused extruding to be the hardest problem as it made it twist and warp slightly.

Tentacle project

For this project we were given the challenge to create a creature with at least four tentacles.
The images below are my current working ideas;

I wanted to give them a human aspect to start off with then I waned to create creature like aspect. I wanted to produce a creature that was not just of one animal so i combined the features of three;
Squid, Octopus and Cuttlefish.

Next stage would be to add a bit of colour.

The colour choice for this I wanted to keep darker I chose the one with tentacles on the back and one with the arms. I want to go with a colour choice where the creature seems grotesque but has a more earth tone base.
I also wanted to create a basic style where colours blend.

 The final outcome;

Bug Man

MY class was given this as a colouring task on Photoshop and here is what I have done;
We started with an outline and base colours, each stage of what we had to do is on the left hand side.
 After applying the base colour we have to move on to create where the shadows. This is done in a separate layer.
With the shade area slightly covered it creates the effect that you want to help produce with creating where the light falls on the subject. By doing this in a layer that's separate with the base colour you can use another overlay to do all the highlighting.
Shading is mostly helping with the light aspect of the image. Knowing where the light will fall helps the entire colouring process.
Just by adding a shaded area the character already looks as if it’s coming to life.
The last part would be adding the rest of the tone. One shade will not help in this situation as it still looks flat. What to do next would be to make all the areas with a brighter aspect show.

 With the image almost done getting rid of the areas that you no longer need such as the base colours.

After tiding up the image its seems pretty much done so here's my version of the little Bug Man;

starting out

3/10/2014

So a start to a new course and a new section of my life, a new process for me so lets start simple.

Group Ideas

Basic idea for a one sheet project;

Title; Submerged

The group I was with wanted to go for a basic horror puzzle game, so we listed all the ideas we had for the type of games such as fighting back to no weapons. Finally we went with this basic horror type and listed what could happen, starting off with just being trapped in a building and moved on from there. After weighing out the options we thought about fear, this was the aspect we needed most and my group went with claustrophobia. With this in mind we went even deeper as it had to affect the character in a profound way.

The leveling;
Instead of just a building we took the essence of drowning as a time limit. This in effect creates a sense of danger. So with the title in mind we all chose a submarine as our location. We wanted to take a step further as just drowning did not give the sense of horror. By adding another location such as a family home it entered into something we could play around with. We didn't want to make this place seem fully real. We added a twist to the levels by mixing both the submarine and the home environment. After a while we want the player to realize that they are in a dream almost, as the character relives his past but puts his family in the scenario. The need to save some one for example; would need to be compelling and in our game design as you look though a window you see a sailor starting to drown. Then as your room is flooding you try to save him but as you open the door on the submarine that character would disappear and you would be back at your home.

The win;
This would be simple as you would have to escape the dream by dealing with the man's trauma and his fear of dying.
