Texturing

Applying a texture.

open the UV texture map in Photoshop and mark out the areas that the barrel rings and which way the wood panels go.

once you have the area selected you can change the colour and add details.

apply the texture in Maya and see if all the seems are in the correct place.

once everything is in the correct place making changes in the Photoshop and refreshing it in Maya it will change.

i decided to make my barrel darker than usual as it seems better when lit and could stand out more in a lighter area.

using an image to make a texture. in Photoshop

when you want to see the concept but not fully model and texture it. taking an image and applying it over the current image to make it look as if it was texture. you can warp the image and move it in sections so that it can wrap around the shape you want. Even if you don't want to texture the whole of the model you can take an image and cover it in Photoshop.

lining it up is the hardest part as to make it so it matches the other sides.

The final result;

once all the detail was added, the final result was good there are a few areas i don't like as they don't match up but over all it works well and fits together.

Creating a character in maya

Sculpting a dinosaur

Experimenting with the tools;

we started off with a base mesh that was the basic shape that we needed. by stating off with the lower poly count. starting off with limited detail working up in each layer to get more and more detail.

once you have enough detail for that layer then add the next to see that detail in a more complex detail.

the top is a lower poly count where you can only see the basic detail of the legs. the next layer adds more detail and you can see the level of the model has drastically improved.

adding the detail was easy after unwrapping the model in Maya the next thing to was to texture it.
i was able to paint it in mudbox and i crated a video of the texture on the model.

Making a dinosaur

when modeling the t-rex we started off by using a mirrored rectangle, we used edge loops to make the base of the head adding the eye was more difficult as it has to be squares. by extruding a square inwards and adding another edge loop i was able to make the eye.

the body the was easier to make i made the body long and added the edge loops to make this part of the body more rounded. i then cut out the area where the legs will go.

i made up to the ankle as to show the basic shape of the leg to start off with .i extruded out then made it so that it curves the inside, then scaled it closer to together as it got closer to the ankle.

adding the tail was the most difficult as i needed it to be round but then go into a point.

These are this term life drawings;

The images above are done in copic marker, a twin tip felt tip pen. the marks they made were bold and fine. I used colours that stood out together to make a larger impact. the colours were mainly used for lighting to show where the light falls.

image 1. is the simplest as i only focused on the brightest high lights and darkest shadows. i found this effective as it doesn't over power the image. my colour choice was the opposite end of the blue spectrum.

i couldn't quite grasp the figure in 7. as the left leg seems to long on the thigh.

image six has a more skin toned range with light blue to show the high lights. the green around the figure was to make the figure stand out more. what it gives to the image is it makes it look as if they are outside next to a bush.

these images are done in ink they are the same position. within the time limit i was able to produce more than one, this gave me a chance to correct the image of how the figure looks. 11 focused more on the face and all look as if it a robot. defining the face should be what i do next time.

the images above are the different mediums that i used, the one that stands out the most is 15 as it has shaped makers to give a more curious effect.

The Hands;

 the hands were one of the hardest things i had to draw but in the end shading is whats key to the image. the use of basic shapes is also helpful, trying not to make the complex.

31 was done in less than a minute and i feel is one of my best images, i i mainly looked at the figure.

the quick sketches focus more on how the figure forms. only looking at basic shapes and the balance of the human body.
