Lava Monster

we were tasked with editing a rock monster into a lava monster. the monster was a simple rock design, and the cracks in seemed to be the best way to make the lava flow.

i saw the face of the lava monster on a smaller rock rather than a the large gap on the side of monster.

i wanted to focus more on the cracks in the rock and have a bit of drip as to create an effect. starting off with a yellow base to find where the lava would flow.

then added an indent as to make it seem more that its more inside the rock monster.

added a bit of a glow as to make it seem lightly more lifelike in a way.

by adding the outer glow it came more to life as it creates its own sense of light.

adding a second colour was next as it i makes the lava have a more toned range and makes it so that the lava stands out more.

once i had the base colour and lighting i added a picture of real lava as to make it more life like. it adds a sense of depth and realism.

my over all thoughts of the the final product that i made was that if i changed where the face was it would have more a different feel to it. that would have showed more anger and i wanted to show strength. also by placing the head there i was looking at the cracks in the rocks and where an i would naturally fit. which i could not see in the front. i also did not fill all the gaps as its more like veins in a way. i also looked at flow thinking that this cant go backwards, or this looks too crowed.

i only added a back ground to give the lava creature more of an impact.
